"Why?" Yes he was absolutely wonderful although few saw it that way. But she was a trauma surgeon, in New York. She knew what he was capable of, what he'd done. At the very least. Yet she'd been polite and friendly towards him--kind at least, since their first meeting.
"You are very smart, entertaining to be around. I know I should hate you, given everything, and maybe you're just acting for me, but you don't seem like a monster."
She takes a sip of wine, "callous and condescending, sure, but I don't know, I don't see the overt cruelty I think I was expecting."
"There's a difference between being cruel in support of an objective, and just being a sadist." Loki replied, gaze still measuring her. "I...could have been a monster, if I wanted. But so can many beings."
"It's.....more that you don't seem to expect me to be anything specific." Loki hazarded, head turning slightly as he scrutinized her. Trying to figure out the puzzle she presented. "You didn't treat me like a monster, I have no reason to attempt being something to gain your favor..."
It brought an amused scoff of laughter, before Loki was getting up from his seat. As he'd been known to do, his clothing shimmered. Midgardian suit and jacket and tie fading into a familiar look from the news.
"I'm rather used to it, honestly." Loki replied, before offering a slight bow. "Nor did I wear this all the time, even during the invasion." May as well tackle it head on. "I imagine you must have questions however."
He was quiet, debating if he wanted to answer. And if he did, how he would answer. How much was he comfortable revealing. Studying her again, blue-green eyes seeming to weigh and measure her. Before he moved back to his chair, clothing shimmering once more--but not back to the Midgardian attire he'd shown up in. He stayed in his Asgardian clothing, just not nearly so... battle ready.
Taking his seat, he finally looked away. "It is complicated, and a delicate manner. But I truly believed you all needed leadership and guidance." They had seemed more orderly, in their way, than the other nine-realms as well. At least those that Asgard did not already have a solid hold over.
That outfit is more practical, and still very not-human.
"We won't even listen to the guidance of scientists about things. Humanity could absolutely use a more unified anything, but it seems unlikely. Especially if an alien invasion didn't make humanity work together."
"It was years ago though, and I've seen quite a bit since then." 4 years, that he'd hidden as Odin, 1 year in prison after that disastrous invasion. Then however many months on Sakaar.
That made him laugh, head tilting down with it and genuinely amused. "No, I take care of it as much as I'm able to, when I'm able to." With a twinkle in his eyes as he looked at her. "I'm glad you seemed to like it."
"To bring it too often might cheapen the experience of having it, Christine." Loki teased. "But I am glad you like it." Then chuckled to himself. "Don't think this gets you out of replacing it in future. I won't expect this vintage, but I will still expect the good stuff."
"Do you branch out from wine as well?" Still with that hint of genuine smile. She made for good dinner company. Or just good company in general, and he was trying to do the same. "...for what it's worth, Thor was also dating a Doctor. A scientist--Jane Foster."

He would just be able to do damage on a different scale.
"You just seem, relieved? - to have someone treat you nicely."

She's not really mentioned the invasion to him, and it isn't as if she saw him, she had been working, what she saw was of him on the news.
"The news did make you look taller though, I'll admit that." Not that he's short by any stretch.

"Better?"

She stares up at him and nods.
"Looks heavy."

She only has one question really.
"Why? You don't even like humans all that much, why bother with this planet in particular?"

If he's even willing to entertain a human as a friend.

Fine, an unexpected question for you, Loki.

She laughs herself, the subject is much lighter and the tension feels broken.

"Can you bring me wine more often?"

"I'm too old for cheap wine myself, so ,I promise to keep good wines on hand."
