"Perhaps. I'm not exactly complaining..." He didn't sound like it anyway as they continued to walk towards their rooms. I suppose it's...disconcerting. Behind his mental voice, he let emotions leak--the tangle of bright happiness and contentment with her coupled with anxiety and worry about could he protect this? what if something bad happened? what if she was used to hurt him? and so on.
It was a reminder that he was, in many ways, still younger than her too for all his years older. But she helped, and soothed him in ways he hadn't known he needed before she came into his life, became close. Another soft smile with the kiss, and he reached out to take her hand where it rested against his arm. "Thank you." It was soft, and quiet, but genuine and full of love.
