[Loki had made good time although he hadn't rushed. Still adapting to life and responsibilities here to enable that life. But he did enjoy the other's company and wondered what she could possibly have for him? They barely knew each other really.]

Somehow I expected you to live in a tree house or one of the hill houses, if not a giant mushroom.

[Speaking enough to alert her to his presence, with a smile and wave.]

( Night Sky was lounging in the grass under the tree, fiddling with one of the teardrop branches and looking up only when Loki made himself known.)

I used to, but my paramour invited me here back when we first started dating- and how could I say no when I get the whole courtyard to myself.

( She sat up. The dryad was clad in only a few pointedly placed leaves and vines around her limbs. ) How have you been since the party?

I suppose it does count as wild enough to suit you, and creature comforts are clearly near enough.

( inside the box was a handful of green stones and a wooden charm attached to a black cord. It was not made of the same material she used for a few other gifts, but it was still handmade.)

[Now Loki is surprised, and truly touched actually. She has no reason, to his thinking, to want to gift him anything. She had no pretenses nor guile that he could detect. Yes, they had interesting conversations and shared kisses that were casual. The smile though, was genuine as he took the flowers and box carefully. One hand reaching out to brush her cheek in thanks.]

I'd like to hear more, as part of arming myself with knowledge.

[But then, he's further surprised. The stones and charm are lovely, and oddly remind him of Asgard. Of his childhood and stories and better times. The box is carefully closed and Loki has to remind himself he was not one for sentiment.]

( She leaned into his touch, eyes shut for a brief moment before fluttering open again. She would assume his lack of a response meant he didn't hate the gifts, at least.)

About what happened? Sure. A month or so ago - maybe before that? I'm never good with time - something called the Waning was happening. The locals were acting strange, telling us to adorn these sigils on our skin with graveyard dirt. Anyone who didn't was possessed by ghosts. On top of that, everyone was seeing visions and hallucinations of their worst fears for days.

[Loki absolutely did not hate the gifts--he was truly touched and unsure how to respond. he had...not been shown kindness like this before. Not in a very long time and not by a stranger. Keeping the box held close, he listened and did not remove his touch. Taking in what she said, before he moved. Shifting though, box carefully placed in his satchel, to come and loop an arm around her. Other hand taken and raised up and kissed.]

The gift is very unexpected and kind. I'm not used to it, certainly not from strangers who barely know me. And the warning is appreciated. ...I am without my magic, thanks to my arrival here. But our host could not take away my knowledge. And I fully intend to find out more about everything going on here.

( She leaned into him, fingers flexing in his grip. )

Strangers is a strong word. ( A laugh. She would not call them strangers at this point, but she understood why he might. ) Well... good luck with that. I'm not going to be snooping around unless I have to. Totally relying on go-getters like you to solve all the problems that crop up.

[The hand isn't lowered, her fingers nuzzled where they were held. Encouraging the embrace if anything while he enjoyed the closeness.]

I'd ask why, but honestly? I'd likely snoop around even without the mystery. I dislike being bored, and curiosity is one of my strengths as well as a flaw.

[He wasn't judging either, though he was curious. She seemed at ease with things here, and that could just be her personality...]

There are plenty of others like you here, so I'm sure you can all put your heads together. ( She closed her eyes and gently brushed her thumb over his cheek. ) I just don't see the need, to tell you the truth. It might all be bullshit and Vaeros is absolutely fucking with us, but if he holds up his end of the deal, I can hold up mine and I'll be... free of my world once and for all. Maybe. Probably.

A fair answer. From what you've told me, you've also been through enough bullshit. It can make one tired really, when one has no time to process the things happening to them.

[Leaning into that touch more, still nuzzling her hand.]

( Night Sky nodded. She had been miserable for weeks prior to the party, and this conversation could easily take a turn in the same direction. So she didn't say anything else - just loosened her grip on his hand so she could stroke her fingers over his cheek and through his hair. )

[Loki was happy to sink into the affection, to lean into it like a cat almost. Idly letting his own fingers stroke skin where his arm was around her.]

It's funny...probably good that things took a turn for the interesting. I tend to work best when my mind has something to focus on and can deal with other problems in the background.

[Aside from settling in, and now the ball, this actually was the first time Loki could possibly start processing all that had happened. He'd dealt with some of it, even while hiding under an illusion as Odin and ruling Asgard. But since his deception had been discovered, it had been one thing after another...]

I'm sure this place will keep you on your toes, whether you want it to or not. ( a soft chuckle, though there was hardly any mirth in it. She was content to stay so long as her wish was fulfilled; but that didn't mean it wasn't a fucking nightmare sometimes. ) But, you know, I'm always a pretty good distraction.

Pretty? Good? A distraction? I'd say so, although being 'good' can be over-rated.

I've been the villain before. It was...over-rated. Complicated. Not what I thought it would be. Though I didn't consider myself as such at the time.

[It's all said meditatively, though of course Loki is aware of what he's saying.]

Hard to define. But I try to help people if they need it and I can. I go out of my way for others. ( she shrugged, shifting so he could rest his head in her lap if he sank down far enough, fingers still kneading his scalp and toying with the long strands of his hair.)

Why were you the villain in that scenario?

Invaded and tried to conquer a planet.

I was angry. Hurting. Lashing out. A whole host of messy emotions that had not been dealt with at all well before ending up in the service of another. One of those desperate bargains.

( She laughed.)

You and my paramour both! I must have a type. ( clearly this was not a devastating revelation. The next part is less funny, and Night Sky frowned down at him as she continued carding her fingers through his hair. )

Ah. I know exactly how those bargains go. You don't sound like a villain to me. Sometimes people do things when they're hurting - it's hard to think. Hard to know what's wrong and what's right when you just want the hurt to stop.

I also tried to wipe out an ancestral enemy people. Trying to make father proud, after all.

[There's some bitterness in his voice. Well he's glad she's not going to kick him out at least. He's perfectly willing to stay where he was and let her play with his hair.]

Mind, that was before I was in the desperate bargain. Before having to survive a year on my own with no one to help me nor kindness given to me. Just myself and my skills. The first time that happened no less.

It happened more than once?

Suddenly being dropped somewhere and having to survive? Yes. Being here is not my first time, although it is the first time I've had to do so without my usual ablities or magic.

[It might surprise her that they've already met and got along pretty decently.]

The last several years have been rather chaotic, although they're the anomaly considering I'm over 1000 yrs old.
