"I admit, I haven't been as fond of anyone's company as I am of yours before." A wry smile, still with his lips against her knuckles. "Perhaps I should worry about being charmed, not you."
"Don't think the possibility hasn't occurred to me." Loki squeezed her hand. "It has, as has the fact that I am apparently okay with it. While it may be possible, it does not seem likely however." Because he could be paranoid at times. "No, there may be something else going on, I just haven't figured out what."
"I thought I'd made it clear that yes, I do." Loki raised an eyebrow. "I have been with people whose company I enjoy before." But he hadn't ever felt close, the way he did with her.
That made him blink in surprise, and his expression went neutral. ...Love? Sometimes Loki wasn't sure he even knew what the emotion was--although he had loved his mother. And while it was twisted with many other emotions, he loved his father. It was...still very complicated, but he supposed that he did love Thor, his brother.
And familiar love could feel quite different from romantic love.
Christine lets him have a few moments, she's not looking for a dramatic romantic confession, she had honestly wondered if he had known the feeling before.
Eventually, he snorts softly and laughs. "I don't think I ever have been. Not in the way I suspect you mean. I'm not actually sure if I'm capable of it, honestly."
Internally, his thoughts had latched onto this idea with a vengeance. It couldn't be. He wasn't that soft, was he? And it would be a problem if he were in love. Much less in love with a human. But what if...?
The idea was shoved to the side for now. "I can't guarantee that your love will be returned. I recognize it is a gift, and I shall treat yours as precious." A pause, and a kiss of her hand still. "I'd rather you know that for truth, than tell you comforting lies." He meant his statement about how he wasn't sure her love was returned. But it could apply to other things as well, that he had no idea about.
"I know" she brushes her fingers against his cheek. "I can feel the emotions you do have for me and they are intense and wonderful."
She has no doubt about the strength of his affections and that's why she doesn't need love as it were. In his long life, she's managed to captivate him enough to be under his protection.
That she was under his protection and care was a form of love already, really. Even if Loki didn't see that. Then again, Frigga had pointed out that he was always perceptive except with himself.
Idly, he wished he could talk to her. Not about any of the things he should say, but about this... It was a stupid thought, but one that crossed his mind anyway.
"...I respect you. Which is why I share them with you." He'd respected her enough to agree to not manipulate her. He couldn't always promise or give her honesty, but he was trying.
"I can confirm that you see sides to me I do not let others see." Brushing his thumb against her skin. "I can gift you the words and sentiment 'You're special'."
"You're welcome. We'll have to go out another night." An easy smile. "You do look very lovely when dressed up, although right now I think you look lovely too."
