They would need to make some dinner, but she didn't mind a slow, lingering kiss first.

Once she pulled away she grinned. "Right, we should eat."

"We should. We'll probably need the energy." Bringing their joined hands up to kiss her knuckles, Loki was then pulling a way. While keeping their hands joined, and heading towards the kitchen. "Let's see what they stocked, and if I can figure out these appliances." He was confident he could.

"I'm tempted to just watch to see how you manage."
But she will likely help. She knows her way around a human kitchen a bit better than he does.

"Is that a challenge?" There's an eyebrow raise, and Loki was smirking. But they'd been stocked up well. Lots of grains and fruits, local vegetables, and their primary meat seemed to be fish or chicken. Which was fine with him. It seemed easy enough to do a basic rice with veggies and fruit, and grilled chicken. Enough to make it last for more than one meal, easy to season and cook, and a good introduction to managing on new appliances and skills.

It wasn't long before they were curled up on the couch, bowls nearby, and Loki had pulled out a notebook and pen to start teaching her runes.

"It's always a challenge." She does help a little bit, but it's mostly Loki that does the cooking, and dinner actually is rather good.

They end up on the sofa and Christine is curled up with him learning runes with him.

It helped that it was simple stuff--the hardest part being prep. Which involved lots of chopping. So more playing with knives. On the couch though, he had long legs stretched out, while hers were draped over his lap. If he hadn't needed both hands, he would've had one arm around her happily too.

"So, a good portion of these will not be a precise one-to-one correspondence with your English alphabet. There are some sounds that we have in Asgardian, and Norwegian, and I'm fairly sure in some other languages near the region. In your modern Midgardian times, you've divided them into two sets, known as the Elder Futhark and Younger Futhark."

"So it's got it's own alphabet." She nods. They are very cozy together.

"Is the difference between the two just the time they were developed?"

It was getting on towards dusk on the island, so things weren't quite so bright or warm. But it was still far warmer than coastal Norway. They hadn't yet lit the fire bowl in the middle of the living area, but they might soon.

"There's a lot of overlap between the two as well, so if you know the one, you'll know most of the other. In addition to each of these having a corresponding sound, they can embody concepts too. Some have even traditionally been ascribed to the gods." Loki's grin turned into an amused smirk. "The runes were symbols that sprang from Urd's well--where we visited. In the lore, Odin impaled himself through his heart with his own spear on Yggdrasil, and hung there for nine days and nine nights to perceive the deeper meanings of them."

"Did he?" Given that Odin is real, and Loki's adoptive dad she can ask if it's true.

"Is there a rune for you? Should I get it tattooed on my ass?"

"He never shared with me, if it was true or not. Neither did Mother." She can ask, but it doesn't mean that Loki knows. Or will answer her even truthfully; which in this case, he was.

"As for whether you wish to get it tattooed, that's up to you. There is a rune that tends to be associated with me." Loki wrote out 6 runes on a sheet on the notebook, before writing what letter they corresponded with if possible. Also the pronunciation, and if it had any other meanings.

Then he circled the 6th one. "Kaun. Which is associated with the hearth and torch, fevers and ulcers, and that sudden flash of insight or intuition." Loki chuckled softly. "This one is the one that became associated with me."

"Secretive." She's not really suprised that Odin didn't really share that much.

The runes look somewhat familar, she's seen them in New Asgard.

"You're the ulcers rune?" That makes her chuckle and she kisses his cheek. "The intuition I can see."

"It depends on context, I believe. But it's the fiery-rune, in many ways." Which made Loki give a slow blink and grin. "Which is ironic as I'm a Jotunn. Many of the stories also claim I'm a fire giant..."

"Are you secretly a fire giant?" She pretends to be shocked.

"I am not. At least, if I am--it will be news to me." Loki teased. Before writing four runes. "That's my name."

"It'll suprise us both." She looks at the runes.

"It looks similar to how it's written in English."

"English has many proto-germanic roots, which is also common in what's known as the Scandinavian countries. So it might be that's how it filtered down through the ages." Loki then wrote the rest of the elder futhark out. With corresponding letter, and meanings. Then he wrote out 9 runes--her name. "c, doesn't really exist, so we use Kaun again." Leaning over to kiss her cheek. "Which means your name begins with my rune."

"Aw, I'm an ulcer too."

She laughs, the lesson is going pretty well. Knowing Latin seems to help her with learning the runes.

"I doubt anyone who knows you would describe you as that, Christine." But it was amusing. "It can be used for improving health to. Runes can also be bound, or what's known as bind-runes, to make various charms and sigils. I'll go into that another time. For now, if you want to just try and memorize and use this list. It's not quite so easy to just translate knowing these, but it'll help--and may provide more meaning as we study the book."

"Some of the spells I know use other runes for binding." So it's not an unfamiliar concept.

"I'll learn the list." She nods, she is a quick study and will likely use astral projection at night to work on it.

"The most prominent use of them I've found has been in new age and more 'mystic' circles. Casting Runes is a common divination tactic, and seen as a way to contact the gods." His tone implied how well that was working. "I find this especially amusing since modern Norwegian uses the English-based alphabet with a few extra letters."

"Can I just use rune casting instead of texting you?" She teases, she is never out of reach of him as has been proven a few times now.

"Some groups still have a hard-on for the vikings."

"You, my Sweetling, have better ways to reach me, including text, than by casting runes." Now Loki slid an arm around her and leaned in to nuzzle her cheek. "And I'm well aware--our arrival here has caused some absolutely wonderful chaos in a great many of them. Especially those who seem to favor one race over another." They had been absolutely shocked by photos of Heimdall and Brunhilde, and Loki had been keeping tabs on said groups just in case they made trouble.

She nuzzles against him, leaving little kisses against his throat.

Leaning his head against hers, both arms wrapped around her. Then just pulled her properly onto his lap to cuddle with soft kisses against her hair. I hope you have ways to keep even me out, if needed.
