Ah. Norse Mythology is common among several different Earths, I've found. And in many of its versions, I seem to be a locus for some of the more outrageous stories. Some of them did happen similarly in my world--the major points are the same, but the way it happened is different. Others seem out of whole-cloth. My version of Odin had Slepnir before I was even born.
Did you want the story, Mokuba?
[Loki definitely sounds amused. Whatever he's doing, he can at least spare his voice. Although there are faint sounds of movement otherwise against dirt, an occasional thwock of impact into something as well.]
So the common myth goes that this was back at just the end of a war between the Aesir and Vanir. That is the gods of Asgard, and those who are supposed to be older gods, tied often to Elemental forces, from Vanaheim. Roughly. In any case, the Aesir wished to build a wall around Asgard, to protect it from incursions and invasions. They could not build it themselves, and were still a suspicious bunch. Eventually, a man appears, offering to build this wall for them. The Aesir were unsure of how to build this wall, but this man and his stallion offered to do it in exchange for the hand of Freyja, the sun, and the moon. Though the gods were reluctant, Loki talked them into accepting this bargain, albeit with stipulations. It must be done in only 3 seasons and the man may accept no other's help or aid in the task but for his horse.
So it goes, that this man and his stallion named Svadilfari set to work. And it looks as if they will finish within the time-frame mentioned, and complete the bargain. The Aesir are not pleased with this, nor is Freyja who does not wish to marry this man. So they go to Loki, pleading for him to find a way to fix it. Accordingly, he turns into a fine mare and proceeds to entice and fully distract Svadilfari.
Without Svadilfari to aid him, the man is unable to full the terms of the bargain as set due to needing a fourth season. Further, the man, really a Jotun, chases after Svadilfari, who chases after the shapeshifted Loki-Mare, causing the delays. Now, in some versions the gods had no intention of paying either way, and so when it is revealed the man is a Jotun, Thor is sent to deal with him in a rather final way.
Regardless, nine months later, Loki appears with a foal-horse with 8 legs, named Sleipnir, who is given to Odin as a gift.
[There's a pause, before Loki's voice continues.]
I have never shapeshifted into a mare nor given birth. In my own universe, Odin had Sleipnir before I was even born. But I've now told you the basics of the tale as told in other universes.
... Wow. And I thought the stuff we deal with was weird, with all ancient magic and past lives and other things.
[ At least now he knows what Alice was talking about! ]
There is another thing I wanted to ask you for help with... Seto's birthday is coming up soon and I thought it would be nice to have some kind of party now that he's got people he's friends with here. I'm just not sure who all those people are so I was wondering if you might have a better idea. I want him to have everyone he thinks of as a friend to be there because it's been years since he had a good birthday party with other people besides just me...
There are other stories that are just as, if not more, weird that I could share. Some of which have not happened to me but are attributed anyways. Others that have the major story points in common, but the execution and details often mixed up.
As for your other question, I can certainly help with that. I'm not entirely certain it'll be complete, but I will get you what I can. I'm fairly certain I can verify and find out who they all are without Seto knowing.
We should swap stories sometimes, see who comes out with the weirdest one.
That'd be great! I don't suppose you know anyone who is good with food and music... Atem suggested those things but nobody probably wants me making a full spread of food and I don't know anything about playing an instrument.
As we get into the darker parts of the year, swapping stories is often how people occupy themselves. I did so when I hosted a Yule get together last year. I'll likely do that again.
I know a few things. I do think Seto won't want a huge or very crowded gathering. He'll probably enjoy just having his friends around--and be surprised by how many of them he has. Food is a necessity, music is nice but not. What do YOU want to do for him, other than gather his friends and celebrate?

Well... I just want him to be surrounded by people who care about him and be happy.
