That panic was absolutely worthy of what she was facing. The horror of the creature, she didn't have much of anything in the way of defense, she rifled through a drawer and grabbed scissors, at least she had something.
Then there was that familar circle of light, and a pop of magic at nearly the same time.
Well, she didn't think she could possibly summon so many people at once. Though she did calm just slightly, there was suddenly a lot of magic in the room; she might survive this.
Of course everyone awkwardly stared at eachother for a moment, before Christine pointed at the horrible monster thing to remind them of the actual threat.
It reminded the apparition too, as it roared at her and sent a movable table in her direction.
Strange lashed out with magic, an orange glowing rope winding around the apparition to hold it still. Thor held out a hand, summoning lightning that arced towards the table and monster. Loki vanished the tesseract and removed his arm from Thor's grasp. One hand made a pulling motion--yanking Christine across the room into him. While the other manifested a pure bolt of green mage energy, lobbing it at the monster.
Tugged across the room, pulled against Loki with one arm going around her shoulder, the other holding another bolt of energy ready to be thrown. The lightening arcs from table to apparition, where the creature vibrates before dissipating rapidly. Strange's energy lasso is loosened and let go.
It's almost anticlimactic.
"Brother, what is going on?" Thor demanded at the same time Strange turned his attention to the demigods. "What are you doing here? What's he doing here." He demanded at practically the same time.
Loki ignored them, blue-green eyes narrowing on the spot where the apparition had been. "I think we're not done." He commented dryly, as indeed the creature was starting to re-manifest.
If she were able to just quietly back through the wall, she would.
She's almost thankful for the damn monster reforming so the boys can wait a little longer to fight eachother. And for the inevitable questions about how exactly Christine was able to call for a god that was thousands of miles away.
"Damn." Said Dr. Strange, lashing out with his energy-lasso.
"Damn!" Said Thor, ready to pull another lightening blast.
"Wait!" Said Loki, studying the reforming monster. This time he didn't lob the bolt of energy, instead twisting his hand and gesturing. A greenish-gold sphere formed around the creature. "If you summon lightening in here, you're as likely to hit us or break something further." That last directed to Thor. The Thunder God still didn't quite know what was going on, but he did listen. Instead he moved to take a step in front of Christine protectively. (Which also put him in front of Loki protectively, as he still had an arm around Christine and was holding her close in his own protective way.)
Strange paused, then nodded as he caught on. With the thing contained (even though he didn't like or trust the one containing it), he could study it a bit more. And they needed to deal with this thing before he could get answers to his questions. Most of his questions anyways. "Christine, are you alright?" Because that was most important.
She is grateful that Loki has talked his brother out of using more lighting. And she does feel very protected being held firmly against Loki while shielded by Thor. (Who is as massive as she imagined)
"Yeah, I'm ok." She replies. She is unharmed if a bit shaken up. "Thanks for coming."
Christine had just called out in a desperate attempt to not die and she had no way of knowing if it would work or not.
The monster sloshes around in the orb, looking like blood spatter and then coagulating back into a loose shape.
"What is that thing, Sorcerer?" Thor said, watching it slosh in the containment orb. Dr. Strange glanced at Christine, and raised an eyebrow at her. Just for a second, before turning his attention back to the apparition. Moving closer, he gestured with his hands in a pattern, while magic formed a complex web of lines around the orb, some going through the orb into the apparition. "...it seems to be a very powerful ghost. Not sure how that got in here, but it's been feeding on the negative energy you can find in the hospital." Turning his attention back to Christine, and frowning slightly. "Has it seemed generally just...depressing lately? Strange power surges?"
Loki said nothing right away, just kept his arm around her, hand at her shoulder to keep her close. "You can destroy it, right?" Because that was the logical answer to him.
Thor crossed his arms, but otherwise relaxed. "Destroying it seems to be the best move." He was still watching it warily with his eye though, turning only slightly to speak to Loki. In Asgardian. "Bror, hva gjør du?"
"Jeg skal forklare senere, men denne er under min beskyttelse." Loki responded, head raising up somewhat stubbornly. He would not be talked to like an errant child. "Jeg mener henne ingen skade."
"You both know it's rude to have a conversation in another language in front of people who don't speak it, right?" Stephen commented, his magic still analyzing the monster.
"That's not very reassuring." Stephen confirmed. Different gestures now, before his hands came together and fingers wove a complicated web. Within the orb, more magic circles gathered to surround the creature, encasing it fully before it all glowed. Banishing and destroying the ghost. That done, Stephen banished his own magic, and turned fully on Thor. "Why is he here?"
Loki looked vaguely affronted, while Thor simply blinked at the Sorcerer. "He's Asgardian, and my brother. One of the refugees, just like myself."
Stephen resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose. "He's a threat, we've been over this."
"Midgard--Earth, is our home now. Loki is many things, but he fought for his home before its destruction. He's no threat to Earth." Thor said reasonably.
"Excuse me, I very much am still a threat even if I have reasons to want Midgard intact." Loki protested, looking peeved.
"Right, reasons....what reasons are those? Like why and HOW do you know Christine?" Stephen moved to peek around Thor, glaring at the other demigod. Loki glared right back, before smirking. "Wouldn't you just like to know."
"Why--no, don't answer that." Stephen said, reaching up and rubbing his temple. Now he moved to step around Thor, only to find the other stepping into his way. "Look, I am just going to talk. He doesn't seem like he wants to hurt her--although I'd feel better if you did come over here Christine."
"Du sverger på mors navn at du ikke vil skade henne?" Thor asked, turning his attention to Loki. His look was stern, but also hopeful. "Jeg sverger på mors navn." Loki replied after a moment, quietly--but honest. Certain to meet his brother's eye.
Thor stayed in Stephen's way for a moment more, before stepping aside. "She is under my protection now, Sorcerer. Loki knows he'll have to go through me." He wouldn't deny he was curious too, but it was clear Loki cared for her. At least somewhat--and Thor had not seen that before in his brother.
"Okay would you both stop doing that, please? And what do you mean you saved his life?" Strange was definitely feeling a headache coming on.
"I was....visiting. And had a nasty stab wound that wouldn't stop bleeding." Loki said, still slightly peevish in tone. "I would likely have been fine. Regardless she stitched my wound closed to ensure I would be. I was in her debt." It was all he wanted to say on the matter.
"So you, what, protect her now because of it? HOW are you even HERE?" Stephen looked exhausted already, and still angry.
Christine makes no real effort to move, she very clearly doesn't see Loki as a threat to her.
Of course he likely would have been fine, unless he fainted and bled out, but it wasn't worth bickering about.
"The same way you're here. I called out for help. Granted I didn't think I would get quite so much of it." And now she's surrounded by men arguing. Maybe she could have taken the ghost alone...
"Yes, I'd like to know that too. Loki how did you know?" Thor chimed in.
"It was a psychic call for help." Stephen answered, but he didn't look pleased by it. Reaching up and rubbing at his temple. "Christine how are you psychic?"
"She had latent abilities that awakened while healing me." Loki answered. Which only made Stephen look at him with an incredulous glare. "Well I wasn't going to just leave her with no answers or no protection."
"What did you do?" Now Stephen was concerned. If...how...how had he never noticed that Christine might be psychic? Well that was easy, many people had abilities that never manifested. SO how and why had hers?
"I don't know, the usual way people are psychic?" She gives a shrug and a roll of the eyes.
"Stephen, he has been nothing but kind to me. If Loki hasn't helped me realize what my mind could do I would be dead right now." Now she's being a bit defensive. Loki might be dangerous but she is more sure now that he is willing to protect her.
Even after two months away from her, he came when she was in danger with no hesitation.
Thor shot a look, at Loki--but it was a curious one. There would definitely be a conversation between the brothers later. They did have business to get back to, even though Thor was loathe to use the Tesseract again.
Stephen was also looking at Loki curiously and in some disbelief. Then he looked at Christine, studying her a moment. His look was...uncertain; he wasn't sure what he was feeling honestly. "He has a shield on you."
"Yes, because I was going to leave her unprotected after she did me a kindness. Because I'm such a monster." Loki said with a bored drollness.
"You did her a kindness..." Stephen repeated, almost like he didn't believe it. The myths DID say Loki could be helpful. When he wanted. But now Stephen had to worry why he wanted to be helpful. Back to Thor. "And you'll keep him in line?"
"Excuse me." Loki protested. "I do not need to be kept in line."
Thor did reach up now and rub his forehead. "I will take responsibility for him. And she is under my protection as well." He gave Stephen a look. "If you would be so kind, Sorcerer, as to send us home?"
"That's right. You came via the Tesseract. That really needs to be somewhere safer."
"Like with you?" Loki said, scoffing softly. Thor also bristled slightly "That is a matter to be discussed privately."
"This isn't private enough for you?" Stephen said.
"No. And when I make a decision, you will be informed." Thor said, a hint of imperiousness to his tone. A sort of casual arrogance as well.
"Oh I think I should be part of that decision. I'm not one of your citizens to be ordered, your majesty." Stephen replied, narrowing his eyes.
Loki rolled his eyes, but caught Christine's on the tail end of it. Want to travel, Sweetling?
Wonderful. Hold on. Loki wasn't going to wait for permission. He also wouldn't beg forgiveness later; he didn't beg at all.
Instead he manifested the tesseract again, making sure he had a good hold on her. Before activating it--right as Thor and Stephen noticed he'd pulled it out again. Protests were on both of their mouths, but cut off.
It's a shift and tug of magic, before they're halfway across the world. In a field with a view of the ocean, and about a 30 minute walk from New Asgard.
"That is much better." Loki all but sighed in relief, vanishing the tesseract once more and wrapping his other arm around her.
"I'm impressed you were able to reach me. I thought I'd severed any tie to myself from the shield." Bowing his head, mouth against her hair. "You're stronger than I thought." A pause. "Or possibly more attuned to Empathy, given that strong emotions have played a significant role with your ability."
