"I keep an eye on those my sons keep company with, and I now see much more than Heimdall ever could." Frigga replied with a smile. Settling herself more comfortably. "This is one of the few places we can speak, as this is a very wyrd place. Though when you wake, you won't remember our conversation."
"It is wyrd, and old. Older than the nine-realms, where the Well sits at its roots. From here is where the Norns weave the life-paths of every being." Frigga confirmed. "You've had strong desires, and that is at least partly why I am here." Suddenly they were looking at the real-scene. There was the fire, Thor asleep on one side curled in his cloak, and Loki curled with Christine trying to keep her as warm as he could.
"One of the reasons. Like you, neither of them will remember upon waking." Frigga moved to crouch by Thor, and stroke his hair fondly. "They have been through much, though Odin and I tried to spare them." Thor didn't stir, but something in him seemed to relax with the dream-touch.
"I don't know how long we'll have, Dr. Palmer." Frigga said, moving to where Loki was curled around her. Brushing his hair back too, and resting her hand on his shoulder. "He's never known love like you give to him. Certainly not in a way he's been able to return."
"It is the way of things, and necessary. Some borders should not be crossed." Frigga said sadly, before she moved away from her sons to come closer to Christine. "He's very perceptive of others, just not of himself. We tried to spare him, to help him not feel different. I tried to help his gifts shine. We failed." It's said simply, but with clear regret.
She can, and Frigga places her own hand over Chrstine's. "Your strength is not the same as theirs, and that is as it should be. But never doubt you have your own strength, Dr. Palmer." Frigga said, firm in her tone.
"What is coming is a great battle. He will want you nowhere near it, but knows you must be. That is how things will happen in this universe. It is the weave. It will be taxing on you, but you are strong."
"You wait, though the waiting will seem long and not long." Frigga said. "There is no best way to prepare, for there are many paths this battle may take. It is ever in motion, as Skuld weaves it even now." She squeezed Christine's hand. "He is a talented liar, especially to himself--but emotions can not lie, and you know this better than anyone, Christine. Thank you."
"He can not see it yet, nor admit it to himself--but he is yours too. For however long you shall live." Frigga smiles enigmatically. "Your human myths are clever, and sometimes saw the future, or made wholecloth out of mere threads."
That made Frigga laugh, and she pet Christine's hand. "Child, you no more need my approval than Loki need prove himself worthy. Those are the wrong framework for what you ask. But." And here Frigga tilted her head, and produced fireworks in her upturned palm. "You would know if you did not have it."
"You'll remember the important bits, as will they. Luck and good journey to you, Dr. Palmer." Frigga faded from sight, and soon Christine was left alone. TO wake when it was time to do so.
Specifics would not be remembered, but the feelings and deeper truths remained--as dreams that were often more than dreams were like to do.
Christine found herself alone, looking over her sleeping form. It wasn't such a strange experience when one already mastered the use of the astral plane.
She lets herself sink back into her body and into a warm embrace. She wakes as the sun rises, she knows she had a dream, but the memory of it is just out of reach.
It is only ever sunrise or twilight, in the dark forest that leads to Urðarbrunnr. The fire is starting to die; Thor is stirring but tangled in his cloak for warmth. Loki is still wrapped around Christine, with her closer to the fire than he, for warmth. He's stirring too.
What had been a clearing was still a clearing, and the river roared loudly nearby. But they were no longer alone, for three cloaked figures stood with them. "Welcome, sons of Odin and Layfey, daughter of Midgard."
Easy, Sweetling Loki's voice is calm, though she can feel him tense. Ready and waiting, as Thor nearby rolls to his feet in a crouch. "Who speaks our name?" Thor said quietly.
"Weavers, Son of Odin. Weavers of the paths of men and gods alike."
"The Norns." Loki murmured, though he did not relax, and his tone was quiet for Christine only. "We were told to seek you out, honored ones."
It was odd, as they spoke as one but it was three voices. "So you were, Son of Laufey-and-Odin both."
"As you know, a great battle is coming. As it as come before across countless weavings. We seek you, as you sought us, so that we might send you where you need to go, to do the most good."
"You speak in riddles, honored ones." Thor said politely. "Is not here where we need to be?"
"Nay, Son of Odin. Here is where journeys converge and divide so that they might converge again. You would be a king, and must be worthy of it--so to Nidavellir you go. You, God of Thunder, must break the storm that is coming." The three raised there hands, and swept them out in a gesture, as Thor was getting to his feet--and he vanished in a flash of magic.
"Wait...!" Loki had a dagger in his hand even though it was a foolish idea, already moving slightly in front of Christine.

Date: 2021-09-05 09:04 pm (UTC)"You're Frigga." Christine is amazed that she actually gets any chance at all to meet the mother Loki speaks so fondly of.
"This place, it's magic is strange. I'm still new to magic, but it's unlike any I've felt before."

"He's very protective." True enough, Loki has wrapped himself around Christine's sleeping form.
